The constellation Lynx is a bumpy line running south from the stars 2 Lyncis down to alpha Lyncis, which sits just north of the border of Leo with Cancer. Alpha Lyncis is a red giant roughly 25-30 times the size of the Sun, and 170 light years away. 15 Lyncis is the brightest star in its corner of the constellation and, in Star Trek, is said to be the home sun of the planet Cait.

The Caitians were a felinoid species who joined the Federation. The feline appearance of Caitians includes long manes and a tail. Caitians can vary in color from brown to black, and females speak in a soft cat-like purring quality to the voice. Some Caitains did not find it necessary to use footwear. (Star Trek: The Animated Series). As Cait was a Federation member, Caitians are known to serve in Starfleet and on the Federation Council, and were present as members in 2286. An unnamed Caitian officer Admiral attended James T. Kirk's court martial in 2286. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home).
