
Beta Aquilae is a star in the constellation Aquila. It
also has the traditional name Alshain from the Arabic term for the
peregrine falcon. Beta Aquilae has magnitude 3.71 and is of spectral
class G8IV. It is approximately 44.7 light years from Earth. It has a
faint 12th magnitude red dwarf companion, Beta Aquilae B, which is 13
arcseconds away on the sky. It is the second brightest star located in
the constellation Aquila (the brightest is Altair).
In Star Trek, this system was in Federation territory in
the 24th century, and home to a Human population and a Starfleet
